Meet the artist
Bob Vogel
Art inspired by water, wind, and and shoreside vistas
Bob Vogel began painting in the late 1960s, encouraged by Hugh Collins, a gifted landscape and wildlife artist.
While his creative path started early, it wasn’t until the early 1990s—living in Newburyport, Massachusetts—that Bob fully dedicated himself to developing his craft through painting and instruction. A stroke and relocation to Florida interrupted his work, but in 2010, he returned to painting with renewed passion and a deeper sense of purpose.
Marine & Landscape Painting | Expressive Realism
-
I draw inspiration from a life lived near the ocean. My subjects are not imagined—they’re drawn from experience: of working on boats, the rugged beauty of New England shores, the stillness of a coastal marsh, the changing sky over water. Hopefully my paintings evoke the quiet force of these familiar places, honoring their mood and movement.
-
My work falls under the style of expressive realism. My paintings are representational yet aiming to capture not just how a place looks, but how it feels. Brushwork and the use of color reflect whenever possible real experiences —waves crashing on rocks, boats at anchor or underway, sand dunes, sunsets, and sunsets. the sea, wind—elements experienced over time. Through oil on canvas, I invite you to share my memories.
My goal is connection: to offer a window into a coastal life rich in texture, weather, and spirit. “If someone can relate through my paintings to part of their own story, then I’ve succeeded.”
Check out the Gallery, a representation of Bob’s work over the last five years and archive pieces.
If you are interested in “limited custom commission” based on the gallery, Bob would be happy to discuss the process with you.
